NOSSCR Applauds the Reintroduction of the Social Security 2100 Act

We must raise the fee cap after 12 years and stop the five-month wait for benefits.

Washington, DC October 26, 2021– The Social Security 2100 Act ensures the modernization of the Social Security Administration and the future solvency of the program. NOSSCR strongly supports the reintroduction of this important legislation by Chairman John Larson (D-CT) of the Ways & Means Social Security Subcommittee.

“NOSSCR is especially pleased that the bill addresses NOSSCR’s top legislative priorities, increasing the fee cap for claimants’ representatives and ending the five-month waiting period before claimants are able to receive their Social Security disability benefits,” says Executive Director Barbara Silverstone.

Both issues are crucial; the fee cap has not changed in 12 years, making it more difficult for claimants to find representation, and ending the unjust five-month waiting period that beneficiaries must endure before receiving their earned benefits will provide much needed assistance to those found disabled.

“The inclusion of these provisions results in a fairer and more efficient Social Security Disability program,” continues Silverstone. “We have worked closely with Chairman Larson and his staff on these important provisions in the past and commend Chairman Larson for their inclusion in this bill.”
